Introducing How India Spends
The Indian government, regulators, associations and independent bureaus publish a lot of data. But the data lives scattered across their websites in formats that are tough to parse, especially if you ever want to review historical context.
I have spent countless hours over the years visiting these pages, tracking when new data arrives and archiving older information. So for the past few days I have been working on bringing everything together in one place and keeping it current as new releases come in. It’s mostly for my own consumption, but you may also find it interesting.
I am calling it How India Spends. It covers UPI, credit cards, mutual funds, bank credit, remittances, flights and trains, all from official sources like the RBI, NPCI, AMFI and NSE, as well as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Bank for International Settlements and United Nations agencies.
I intend to keep adding to the site, including things like, India’s weight on MSCI EM and sovereign ratings. In the meantime, if you have suggestions on what more data How India Spends should collate, please let me know! m@manish.one / x.com/refsrc
